wall 1: kid wall

Filed under: climbing, guest, house, IKEA, update — mgcg @ 2:13 pm

one more item off the list to completing the remodel in the back rooms of the house was checked off this morning.  the kid climbing wall in the guest room.  aaron and i look forward to much fun setting problems and dreaming of when we can get the garage filled with more wood and holds and overhangs.  noah had the FA (first ascent) and will be back to climb more soon.  even though it’s only 8 feet high, it gives a good pump in the arms!  yes!

fitting more holds:

GET IT!

camping with the matts

Filed under: climbing, fire, Mountains, vacation — mgcg @ 1:28 pm

a few weeks back the bates came back to CO.  cate and i went down to the springs for suzy’s surprise bday party and we had a good time seeing them.  we miss them.  of course, during their stint here, matt HAD to go camping.  so i obliged.  ;p

matty b’s site:

matty g’s site:

time to get a fire going.  found a great fire ring someone put some time/effort into.

now, off to search for boulders to climb.

didn’t have to walk far to see some, but most were unclimbable due to lack of holds or chossy crumbling mess.

we did find a couple that we could flail up!

pretty teeny plants to greet you at the top:

matt also showed off his tree climbing prowess.  you can see why we get along so well.

back to camp to cook some grub and chat and go to bed before dark.  🙂

miss you already, matt.

awning, etc.

Filed under: house, Molly, plants, repair, update, vehicle — mgcg @ 9:50 pm

got the awning up!  i wish the long awnings were the same shape and dimensions as the small one over the door.  jim made a good suggestion that i think we’ll take…paint the lowest slat around each side in the dark “iron ore” paint color to replace the stripe that is now covered.

some of the great succulents that look soooo old.  they’re spread over about 8 sq ft in a corner of our front yard.  we plan to transplant some of them around.  so cool.

finally got an outside handle for the sliding glass door that leads to the backyard.  the thickness of the wall of the “wire pull” was too thick to fit between the glass and screw coming through to attach the handle.  good thing i had an old set of files to take down some of the thickness.

time for some recent molly…

miss high and mighty inspecting my handle installation.

this blanket is comfy.  get out my face.

check out the ear standing up!  sorry for the fluorescent lights.

and the snow that’s been going since midnight or so last night.

camera: unload

Filed under: fire, food, guest, house, IKEA, Molly, Mountains, office, repair, update, vacation, yard — mgcg @ 7:53 pm

so, i have lots of pics that have no home and have been stuck on the camera.  so, enjoy these from the past not sure how many weeks.

ikea bed frames = 2 singles or a king!

vail and cate doing what she does so well.

the caulkins’s (one of the founders of vail) front door.  🙂

dryer repair.  busted heating element.  thanks jim!

we ventured to estes park (first time ever) to see what it was like.  just so happens a snow storm blew in.  felt like i was back living at UTR!  as we came into town there was a gathering of people off the side of the road.  then we saw dogs.  BIG dogs.  and sleds.  and you can figure out the rest.

haha…now if only that temp was right, then it would feel like gunnison.  however, my temp sensor has been screwy for months.  it was probably about 10˚f.  🙂

the only pic we took in town was this silly reminder of home.  so tourist-y.

molly is a smart one.  durn blurry!

presenting!  the always willing to help, and ask a billion questions, noah!  aaron’s cool too.

this past weekend’s project.  well, one of them.

removed the edging.  hello scrap money!

cate.  master painter.

it’s like a burn pile, only smaller and more in the city.

installed!

taking advantage of the burn pile coals, cate, amazing me once more, improvises and makes some fish and veggies hobo-pak style.  YEAH!  that’s the old crawlspace hatch frame burning.  heh

the office is taking shape.  closet primer NO wallpaper!

let the walls rise

Filed under: Uncategorized — mgcg @ 10:40 am

our friend and amazing person, aaron, came over to impart some wall-building knowledge.  wow.  he works fast and does good work.  the project is to restore the 2 walls that once were the closet in the office and the wall separating the office/guest rooms.  so, let the pictures begin.

we had to chip out the plaster that someone used to level the floor so the old carpet could be layed.  we revealed the subfloor here between the two rooms.

the first wall is up!

complete.

now for the wall.  a surprise awaits those who visit.  teehee!

setting the footer thingy.  hah

aaron gitnrdun.

headers for future doors.

TA-DA!  and a sleeping puppy pic for good measure.

aaron and i will continue working on the project by dry-walling and completing the electrical.  we added an outlet on each side of the wall and of course, a new light switch in the office.  can’t wait!

dreams dashed…

Filed under: bathroom, house, repair, update — mgcg @ 9:05 pm

well, we attacked the floor in the half bath tonight to try to reveal the original grey vinyl with flecks of yellow, pink, grey, and aqua.  the carpet tiles aren’t horrible, but aren’t even really glued down.  the tan vinyl tiles with whispy looking weeds on them are bad and are up.  i would show a pic but i can’t find my usb drive my memory card plugs into.  so, cliffhanger it is.

mg

edit:  here it is…

so cool!

and uggh…

shotty patch job with new subfloor.  NOT level with existing original subfloor.

more old more recent tiles removed.  more of the original flooring ruined by the patched subfloor job.

the replaced subfloor was so uneven with the original that the new tan tiles they put on cracked and broke because of the drop off.  lovely.

now what?  for now put the maroon carpet tiles back over it all, then when we can actually do it right, perhaps find a similar floor to the original.  that will have to wait.

DUX is complete

Filed under: craigslist, repair — mgcg @ 5:02 pm

it is finished!  our DUX chair originally owned by the Middlebrook family of Arapahoe Acres, has just received it’s reconditioned cushions from Brandt & Whitney.  The combination of the fagas straps and the new foam makes it like new again. The guys from Brandt & Whitney commented on how nice the fabric is and I couldn’t agree more.  The weave alone is outstanding, even if the color is a little faded in places.  Oh well, let the sitting and admiring begin!

fagas

Filed under: Uncategorized — mgcg @ 12:26 pm

so, after owning this DUX chair for about ten months, i finally ordered replacement fagas straps from “Klassik” by Lynne.  i was referred to her direct from fagas as the only US dealer/distributor.  i sent the measurments to Gitte, who was great, but received the wrong length.  so, Gitte sent the correct length and reimbursed me my return shipping.  our chair needed straps marked 560.  I installed them with little trouble and they’re perfect.  now we just need some cushions.  🙂

nook

Filed under: craigslist, kitchen, Uncategorized, update — mgcg @ 9:09 pm

the apparently popular fake brick in the kitchen nook had to get some paint on it.  so, what cate began on this wall, i finished one night.  texture is nice, but i’m glad it’s no longer mustard/black.  🙂

ikea had nothing of interest to us in the barstool height.  so i’m glad craigslist was again kind to us.  and we met a really great couple! three of these will grace the yet to be made counter in the kitchen nook.
